Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful short-term therapy that has been helpful for clients suffering from a wide range of difficulties, including PTSD. Indeed, EMDR has been shown to be among the most effective treatments for PTSD. This technique, developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro, is helpful for clients with life patterns of emotional distress such as post-traumatic stress, performance anxiety, and other emotional difficulties. The approach utilizes a synchronized left-right hemisphere stimulation that helps clients with emotional distress de-synthesize anxiety, disturbing thoughts, and memories.

Research studies show that EMDR is very effective in helping people process emotionally painful and traumatic experiences. When used in conjunction with other therapy modalities, EMDR helps move the client quickly from emotional distress to peaceful resolution of the issues or events involved.

EMDR may work quickly even with the most difficult memories. Some positive changes that can occur with EMDR include diminished power of memories and increased calmness in many areas of living.
