Michelle Herman, LCSW-C, is a licensed clinical social worker. She graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Psychology and Cognitive Science with Distinction. Michelle later pursued her Masters in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a focus on clinical mental health practice. After graduating, she worked at an outpatient community mental health clinic, providing comprehensive DBT services to low-income individuals who struggle with their emotions.

Michelle specializes in working with individuals who have difficulties with emotions, including those with Borderline Personality Disorder. She genuinely believes in the effectiveness of Dialectical Behavior Therapy due to its evidence-based, structured nature and the success she has seen in her clients who have participated in this program time and time again. She is passionate about helping each of her clients to feel more in control of their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. 

Michelle’s approach focuses on building a collaborative relationship and tailoring treatment to each unique individual. She focuses on balancing warmth and empathy with building coping skills to assist clients in addressing the concerns that bring them to therapy. She also has extensive experience and training in helping individuals with LGBTQ+ issues, substance use, trauma, depression, and anxiety. She uses a combination of different treatment approaches in her work with individuals, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Cognitive Processing Therapy.
