Patrick Mitchell, PsyD
Patrick Mitchell, PsyD received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in Washington, DC. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at the Milton Hershey School in Hershey, PA.
Dr. Mitchell specializes in psychological assessment and the treatment of school-aged youth, young adults, and families. His previous experience includes working with children and adolescents in school, inpatient, and outpatient settings. He has worked at the Psychiatric Institute of Washington, the Treatment and Learning Centers/Catherine Thomas School in Rockville, MD, the Suburban Hospital Adolescent Addiction Treatment Center in Rockville, MD, and most recently at the Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents (RICA), a community-based, public residential, clinical, and educational facility serving children and adolescents with severe emotional disabilities in Rockville, MD. Additionally, prior to obtaining his doctorate in psychology, Dr. Mitchell taught elementary, middle, and high school for a decade.
Dr. Mitchell has been intensively trained in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) through Behavioral Tech; he currently utilizes DBT via individual therapy and group skills training with adolescents and young adults. Additionally, his therapy interests with youth and young adults include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for child behavior management; coping with the effects of divorce; parent training; Asperger’s Disorder/High Functioning Autism; ADHD; anxiety and mood disorders; substance use disorders; and young adult transitions.
Dr. Mitchell also has broad experience with psychological and psycho-educational assessments with children, adolescents, and adults. He participated in a neuropsychological assessment training elective while a pre-doctoral intern at the Milton Hershey School. Based on his strong background in psychological and educational assessment, Dr. Mitchell supervised psychological assessment for pre-doctoral interns from 2010-2015 while a staff psychologist at RICA-Rockville.
